My mother-in-law received $250,000 in a wrongful death suit. Are my feelings on this wrong?

Her father, my wifes grandfather, died from mesothilioma so his daughters won some money from this. I felt they should spread the settlement to the grand children as well, 1.2 million, but they treat it as if they earned it. They don’t seem to think that the kids lost their grampa. Are they totally selfish, or am I wrong?
Whoa… I see all your points. I was thinking of sharing it only in helpful ways such as helping with bills or a dependable vehicle to get our kids back and forth to school and such. Not so much a cash gift, but perhaps things like grampa used to do before he passed.
